“A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.” — John Lennon
On January 29, 2025, the cosmos offers us the first New Moon of the year—a celestial reset button wrapped in the rebellious, forward-thinking energy of Aquarius. At 9° Aquarius, this lunation isn’t just an astrological new start; it’s a potent turning point for 2025, setting the stage for personal and collective evolution. With its proximity to transformative Pluto and a supportive trine to Jupiter, this is a moon brimming with bold new beginnings and paradigm-shifting revelations. So, grab a cup of tea (or something stronger if the existential weight hits too hard), and let’s unpack what this New Moon is bringing to the table.
January has been a month of profound shifts, and this New Moon comes as a crescendo to these exalted energies. Jupiter and Uranus have recently turned direct, allowing their full momentum to push us forward into new opportunities and insights. The North and South Nodes have firmly settled into Pisces and Virgo, respectively, emphasizing a collective narrative of surrendering outdated perfectionism for a more intuitive, compassionate way of being. Uranus Direct in Taurus brings a renewed clarity to what we value and how we structure our lives around those priorities. It calls for releasing attachments to the old and embracing innovation, particularly regarding finances, resources, and personal freedom. Meanwhile, Jupiter Direct in Gemini amplifies intellectual growth and open communication, encouraging us to dream bigger while grounding those dreams in tangible strategies. These planetary motions act as a prelude, setting the stage for a New Moon that challenges and inspires us to reimagine our lives from the ground up.
This New Moon in Aquarius is a masterclass in cosmic contradiction. On one hand, Aquarius is all about innovation, community, and pushing boundaries. On the other, its conjunction with Pluto adds an intensity that delves into the depths of transformation and collective responsibility. This is the first New Moon since Pluto entered Aquarius, making it a significant marker for the themes of the year ahead. Themes of societal evolution, power dynamics, and the need for communal innovation are underlined. Adding to the mix is a trine to Jupiter in Gemini, which provides expansive, optimistic growth tempered by a pragmatic focus on intellectual rigor. The Venus-Neptune conjunction in Pisces further amplifies the need for balance between idealism and realism, creativity and practicality. While it’s a beautiful alignment for dreaming big, it also warns against escapism or over-romanticizing our circumstances.
As we navigate these energies, Mercury’s conjunction with Pluto just prior to the New Moon digs deep into our subconscious and invites deep conversations. This is a time to uncover truths, align intentions, and speak with authenticity. The atmosphere is ripe for breakthroughs—whether intellectual, emotional, or spiritual—but only if we’re willing to face the shadows as well as the light.

“There is nothing noble in being superior to your fellow man; true nobility is being superior to your former self.” — Ernest Hemingway
Hard to believe we’re only at the end of January 2025, and yet I feel like I’ve aged seven years in just these few weeks. It’s been a lot. Between the ongoing erosion of human rights and democracy in the U.S., the devastating wildfires tearing through L.A., the unmasking of Neil Gaiman—one of my heroes—as yet another abuser, and David Lynch apparently deciding he’s had enough of this reality altogether, we’ve also got UFO egg crash retrieval programs involving psychic military units? Excuse me, but WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS GOING ON?
This year began with a profound cosmic shift: a lunar nodal flip, like the universe turned its compass upside down. The North Node shifted into Pisces, pointing us toward surrender, creativity, and compassion, while the South Node moved into Virgo, urging us to release our obsessive grip on what we imagine as a functional, structured and organised materialistic worldview, whilst being asked to embrace a more spiritual & flexible outlook. With our little piece of history requiring us to put faith and build our own personal altars from tangible stuff we can consume for our immediate pleasure, this will most likely be a time of shocking and painful revelations and adjustments.
I think we’ve reached a collective point where we need to stop pretending there’s still time to reverse climate change. It’s here, and we invited it in. Ringing alarms louder won’t undo the damage, and denying it exists won’t stop what’s coming. It’s also not the first time in human history we have faced such challenge, and while we’re not powerless, the weight of our choices is staggering. In these early weeks of 2025, the news barrage out of the U.S. has been relentless, but it’s not here to mobilize preventative action —it’s a reflection of what we’ve allowed. Also a familiar storyline. Trump is here, and once again, the door was held open for him.The world on the east of the United States is listening and taking notes. As someone who grew up in the Czech Republic, I can tell you that much of Central and Eastern Europe only embraced progressive left-leaning ideals reluctantly, begrudgingly & often to appease and maintain diplomatic ties with the U.S. With Trump’s presidency legitimizing racial and sexual discrimination again, along with fiercely anti-immigration measures, you can be sure Europe will be swift to follow.
Given how absolutely devastating for my mental health Trump’s first mandate’s been, in order to preserve my last bits of sanity, I had to slowly wean myself off of the malefic News cycle. This is not about giving up hope, rather in looking for it outside emotional states that are paralyzing and detrimental to our health. History and time aren’t linear rivers sweeping us inevitably forward. They’re cyclical, bringing archetypes, themes, and plotlines back for review. Not in a vicious loop, rather in a spiralic fashion, we arrive to the same narratives, same characters and plot twists in different evolutionary stages of humanity.
Of course the Universe, God or the Great Game Designer, however you wish to frame it, would send us a global fascism storyline again. Let's see how you deal with it this time? Only a few decades have passed since WW2, but unlike then, even children now hold an access to an interactive library of human experience and history, in the palm of their hands, all of us connected through an invisible information highway. I wonder how that's going to shape the story this time?
Radical activism doesn’t always look like marching with banners. Aquarius Season asks us to find revolution in our local communities, through creative solutions and small but radical acts of kindness. Connection and collaboration might just be our most powerful tools yet.
The practical applications of this lunation are clear. Dream big, but don’t forget to ground those dreams in actionable steps. The profound changes under the direction of Pluto invite us to release outdated beliefs and attachments, making way for a future aligned with our authentic selves. Aquarius thrives on collaboration, so this is a wonderful time to reach out to like-minded individuals or groups who share your vision. Reflection is key; take time to journal, meditate, or engage in therapeutic practices to integrate the deep shifts that are occurring. And finally, stay open to the unexpected. Uranus’ direct motion signals that surprises are not just likely but inevitable—and they often hold the key to our growth.
