The Shell & The Mountain: A Meditation for Building Your Inner Fortress

Jupiter and Cancer are fighting in the parking lot of your subconscious. This guided meditation is the peace treaty.

Okay but genuinely, what in the actual hell is going on right now, and more importantly, how are you holding up?

Let’s be real. The vibe out there is a paradox this year. It’s a lot, it’s both tiring and confusing and I’m genuinely this close to fire up one of those fucked up AI chatbots to tell me what to feel.

We’re deep in the emotional, weepy, let-me-just-stay-home-and-rewatch-Fleabag-for-the-ninth-time swamp of Cancer Season, and on June 29th, the sky also marched Jupiter into Leo for the next twelve months. No memo was exchanged between the two planets about how deranged that timing is.

One transit wants you in the dark with your childhood diary. The other wants you on a stage you didn’t audition for, fully lit, mic already hot. They did not consult each other. They did not consult us either.

Anyone else inexplicably turning into an insecure, anxiously attached mess of a partner/friend/neighbor one minute, and mid-way through drafting an unhinged, borderline-feral reply-all the next?

Anyone else keep waking up from dreams filled with betrayal from loved ones, carry that hurt into their coffee order, and then somehow also finally send the blunt text you’ve drafted and deleted nine times, before you’ve even finished the coffee?

Yep. That’s the season. Mercury turned around and started walking backward through the one sign built specifically for remembering, right as Jupiter strutted into the one sign that has never once looked back at anything in its life.

We’re being asked to excavate our entire emotional inheritance and simultaneously take up more space than we’ve dared to in years.

The other day I found myself weeping at a video of a baby bat being fed a tiny piece of watermelon, whilst taking a break from drafting a ruthless, take-no-prisoners email to a client who was late on a payment, and if that isn’t the perfect encapsulation of our current astro-weather, I don’t know what is.

We’re all marinating in the deep, gooey, heart-on-our-sleeve feelings of Cancer Season, only to be sucker-punched by the stark, sobering reality check of the Capricorn Full Moon.

And then, a few weeks later, handed one unexpected afternoon of actual ease, because Uranus and Pluto decided to trine instead of fight, just so we’d remember what not being at war with ourselves feels like.

This season isn’t offering one polarity. It’s stacking them: soft versus loud, memory versus spectacle, the sudden spark of Mars conjunct Uranus (mark your calendars for July 4th shitshow on the global stage!) versus the slow, undramatic door-closing of Venus meeting the South Node ten days later, the fog of a retrograde Mercury versus one sharp, blinding flash of clarity two days before it, courtesy of Mercury cazimi.

A cosmic demand to be radically soft and brutally efficient, quietly nostalgic and suddenly explosive, sometimes on the same afternoon, occasionally before lunch.

To build a cozy nest for our feelings, but also to be the fucking mountain that nest is built on.

If you want the actual mechanics behind all this instead of just the vibes, I walked through every transit of the season individually, in order and then translated each one sign by sign: what it’s doing to your particular chart, what story all these transits are trying to tell together, and, crucially, how to stop being narrated at and start actually writing the thing yourself.

So how do we hold all of it? How do we honor our squishy, vulnerable, memory-flooded hearts without either dissolving into the swamp or getting crushed under a Leo-sized main-character mandate we didn’t ask for?

That’s the exact question this guided meditation, The Shell & The Mountain, was made to answer.

It’s a journey to build an inner fortress that’s strong enough to weather any storm, but with windows open wide enough to let the moonlight, and this year, a fair amount of Leo sunlight too, in.

This is a quick & practical, soul-deep construction project for the feral hearts who already know that true strength was never about picking a side of the polarity.

It’s about being the shell and the mountain, on the same day, without losing your mind.

Stay soft, stay strong.
